Prepared by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Sriram Charitable Trust, the document makes several suggestion like giving greater decision making authority for Puducherry, developing the union territory as a knowledge services hub and building multiple transport access infrastructure.
Speaking on the occasion, Vaithilingam said the union territory was focussing on tourism development and bio-technology as it did not have enough land for industrialisation.
“Vision 2025, drafted by the CII, is first of its kind for the union territory,” he said.
Other important proposals the document makes are: set up large and mini special economic zones (SEZ), develop mass housing projects at affordable rates, build capacity in the existing educational institutions to attract overseas students, formulate public-private partnership policy and introduce governance review mechanism.
According to Sriram Subramanya, chairman of CII-Puducherry, the vision document reflects the views of cross section of the populace living in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions.
