Provide warm clothes, good food in juvenile homes: court
December 4th, 2009 - 10:02 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday pulled up the government for not complying with court orders to improve the lot of children living in juvenile homes and asked it to provide warm clothes and good quality food to them.
A division bench comprising of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S.Muralidhar said: “It is a serious problem and should be addressed on priority basis. You (government) should provide warm clothes and food of good quality, and file a status report by Dec 7.”
The court had earlier constituted a four-member committee to look at the welfare of children in juvenile homes while hearing a public interest petition alleging rampant sexual abuse and ill-treatment of minors lodged there.
The court’s latest order came on the plea of Meera Kabir, a volunteer, who told the court that during her surprise visits, she found that children are not given adequate and good quality food and till now, they have not been given warm clothes.
“Months have been passed after our orders but still orders are not complied with. Things are still miserable,” the bench said.
