Protests outside Sibal, Mukherjee, Dikshit’s houses (Lead)

Pranab Mukherjee New Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS) Supporters of social activist Anna Hazare Monday staged a sit-in protest outside residences of union ministers Kapil Sibal and Pranab Mukherjee and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

As Hazare asked supporters to stage protests in front of their MPs’ homes, the supporters swarmed outside the three leaders’ houses.

Around 40 protesters gathered outside Sibal’s residence on the Teen Murti Marg, most of them from his constituency Chandni Chowk, seeking support for the Jan Lokpal bill. Sibal is the minister for human resource development and communications and IT.

“Sibal and company are behaving like the East India Company, they have to sense the mood of the people,” one of the protesters said.

Another protester from Chandni Chowk said: “The referendum in our area showed 80 percent people supporting the Jan Lokpal bill. He is our MP, he must reflect our view.”

Dikshit’s 3, Motilal Nehru Marg residence also saw protesters staging a sit-in. A few protesters who were gathered before Mukherjee’s Talkatora Road residence were detained by Delhi Police.

Meanwhile, some of protesters also gathered outside the Congress headquarters at 24, Akbar Road and shouted slogans against the government.
