Professor arrested for rape attempt
September 18th, 2010 - 1:00 am ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 17 (IANS) A 52-year-old professor was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a tenant living in his house in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, police said Friday.
V.N. Pal, a Mathematics professor at the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University in Kanpur, was arrested Friday night from his house in Bithor area.
“The professor was arrested on the complaint filed by a 30-year-old woman, who is a tenant in his house,” police inspector Dilip Kumar told IANS from Kanpur, some 80 km from Lucknow.
“The woman alleged the professor attempted to rape her inside the kitchen while she was alone in the house,” added Kumar.
