December 19th, 2011 - 7:01 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, Dec 19 (IANS) The owner of a travel agency in Srinagar who duped aspiring pilgrims for this year’s Haj to Saudi Arabia has been arrested.
Fabiyan Wahid Gilkar, the owner of Hajeej India travel agency, was arrested in Rajasthan Sunday.
“We have brought him here today (Monday) and have taken him on police remand for seven days to begin his custodial interrogation. Our first priority is to recover the Rs.9 crore which Gilkar swindled from aspiring pilgrims,” Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Srinagar, told IANS here.
Around 500 aspiring ‘Hajis’ could not go for pilgrimage despite paying money to Hajeej India.
The duped pilgrims had been agitating since October this year against the travel agents.
After an FIR was registered against the travel agency, its owner Fabiyan Wahid Gilkar had gone into hiding.
