Prisoner escapes from police custody

Kolkata, Sep 15 (IANS) A prisoner escaped from police custody by slipping off the rope tied to his waist while being taken from a hospital after medical tests here Monday afternoon, police said.Murad Alam, 30, was arrested from Madan Mohan Burman Street in central Kolkata in a theft case, a Kolkata police official said.

Alam, along with four others, was taken to the Medical College & Hospital for a medical examination before being produced in the court. When the test was over he managed to loosen the rope tied around his waist, police said.

The offenders were being escorted to the prison van by two constables and an assistant sub-inspector.

“We are trying to nab Alam as soon as possible. We have alerted police officials in and around the city,” the official added.
