Prison clash leaves 18 dead in Honduras

Tegucigalpa (Honduras), May 4 (DPA) At least 18 people were killed in fighting between feuding gangs in a prison in Honduras, a police spokesman said Saturday. The clash took place in a prison in the city of Tamara, around 30 km of the capital Tegucigalpa. No further information was available.
On April 27, eight inmates were were killed in a shootout between gangs inside a prison in San Pedro Sula, 250 km north of Tegucigalpa.
Honduras’ prisons are considered hopelessly overcrowded and clashes between inmates and with the jail guards have been common in the country.
