Principal suspended for molesting girl students

Hamirpur (Uttar Pradesh), March 5 (IANS) The principal of a government school here was suspended Saturday on charges of molesting girl students, an official said.

S.R. Verma, principal of Chandpurwa Madhyamik Vidyalaya, was molesting some class eight girl students for the last several months and had also threatened them of dire consequences if they told anybody about it, the official said.

Verma is absconding.

He was suspended after a girl and her parents approached the education authorities Friday and informed them about Verma’s conduct.

An official went to the school for an enquiry, and received several complaints against Verma from other girl students as well.

“On the basis of preliminary investigations carried out by the official, we have suspended the principal with immediate effect,” Manoj Kumar, district in-charge of basic education, told reporters in Hamirpur, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“A police case has also been registered against the principal. A detailed enquiry is jointly being carried out by the officials of the education department and the police,” he added.
