Prince Charles to visit South Africa

Camilla Parker Johannesburg, Oct 14 (IANS) Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall, will pay an official visit to South Africa between Nov 2 and 6 at the personal invitation of South African President Jacob Zuma.

South Africa’s department of international relations announced about Charles’ visit Thursday, Xinhua reported.

Charles, known for his concern for the environment, will include on his itinerary “sustainability issues in the run-up to the Durban climate summit later in November, and shared heritage and conservation of traditional livelihoods and wildlife,” according to an official statement by South Africa and Britain.

South Africa will host UN climate change talks in Durban between Nov 28 and Dec 9.

Other issues on his agenda will be “employment opportunities, education and practical support for disadvantaged young people, according to the statement.

There will also be a strong focus on the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF’s) work to protect endangered species and fragile ecosystem.

Charles recently became president of WWF in Britain. In South Africa, he will visit the Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg to see the legacy of former South African resident Nelson Mandela.
