Priest attacked, temple robbed in capital

New Delhi, March 13 (IANS) A gang of robbers attacked the priest of a temple in the capital’s Mehrauli area late Thursday night, and fled with gold ornaments from the idols, the police said Friday.
The incident took place at around 2.30 a.m. in a temple in Mandi village area of Mehrauli.

According to the police, the robbers asked the priest, Subhash Giri Maharaj (66) to open the temple door on the pretext that one of their friend was not well. As soon as he opened the door, they attacked him with a knife and forced their way in, taking away gold ornaments from the idols.

The villagers came to know about the incident early in the morning and the injured priest, who suffered injuries on his hand, was taken to a doctor.
