President, vice-president, PM congratulate Sushil Kumar

New Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday congratulated Sushil Kumar for winning the bronze medal in wrestling at the Beijing Olympic.In her message, Patil said: “I am extremely delighted and proud that you have won the bronze medal.”

After Abhinav Bindra shot India’s maiden individual Olympic gold medal last week, Delhi wrestler Sushil Kumar added a second medal to the country’s kitty by winning the bronze in the men’s freestyle (66 kg) event at the Beijing Games Wednesday.

“Your determination, grit and ambition for achievement have given the nation its second medal at the Games. You have proved that hard work will always bring laurels,” the president said and wished him well for the future.

Ansari said the medal reflects Kumar’s “hard work and determination”. He said this valuable addition to the Indian medal tally is a further inspiration for Indian sportspersons.

In his message to Sushil Kumar, Manmohan Singh said: “I congratulate you on winning the Bronze medal in the 66 kg wrestling event in the Olympic Games. Your achievement has brought joy and pride to the nation. Your accomplishment will inspire all young sportspersons of the country to excel in their chosen fields of endeavour.”
