Kolkata, June 14 (IANS) Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Thursday telephoned Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and sought the support of Left parties for the Congress’ presidential candidate.
A CPI-M source said Mukherjee’s call came Thursday morning, a day after Congress ally Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party apparently nixed his candidature for the country’s highest office.
“Buddhadeb babu assured Pranab Mukherjee that he would discuss the matter in the party forum,” the source said.
