Mumbai, July 13 (IANS) United Progressive Alliance (UPA) presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee will call on Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray at his residence here Friday evening, a party official said.
He will be accompanied by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and other top state Congress leaders, besides Sena leaders.
Mukherjee will be here Friday on a daylong visit to campaign for his candidature for the country’s top post.
He will also meet leaders of all state political parties supporting him and express his gratitude at a function in Nariman Point in south Mumbai in the evening.
The Shiv Sena had announced its support to Mukherjee’s candidature in the ‘national interest’, a decision that upset its state alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party and other National Democratic Alliance members.
Mukherjee had earlier phoned Sena chief to thank him for the Shiv Sena’s support.
