Pragya associate attempts suicide, claims torture
January 5th, 2011 - 9:25 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 5 (IANS) Anant Singh, an associate of Sadhvi Pragya Singh, a key suspect in the 2008 Malegaon bombing, took poison Wednesday alleging torture, police and family sources said. He was rushed to a hospital where he survived. In what was to be a suicide note, Anant Singh alleged that he was tortured Tuesday by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) when he was questioned about his links with Pragya Singh, police sources said.
Anant Singh was found unconscious at his flat in Jangpura in the afternoon by his family. He was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences where he got emergency medical care.
The suicide note recovered from him alleged that the NIA “physically and mentally tortured him”, the sources said. The NIA has routinely denied similar charges.
Pragya Singh is said to be the brain behind the Sep 29, 2008 blast in Malegaon in Maharashtra that killed eight people.
The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai Police has accused her of forming a group to avenge the earlier Mumbai train bombings.
