Kolkata, June 10 (IANS) Pradip Bhattacharya, a former working president of the state Congress unit, was Friday named interim chief of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee.
All India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of the party in the state Shakeel Ahmed told IANS that Bhattacharya has been given charge as the PCC chief “till a new president is appointed”.
Mohamad Sohrab has been appointed the new Congress Legislature Party leader, he said.
Manas Bhuniya and Abu Hena had sent their resignations as the PCC president and the CLP chief respectively after they were sworn in cabinet ministers in the Mamata Banerjee government.
“Congress president Sonia Gandhi has accepted the resignations of both Bhuniya and Hena,” Ahmed said.
Bhattacharya is the chief of the West Bengal wing of the Indian National Trade Union Congress.
