Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu), April 30 (IANS) Banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief V. Prabhakaran could not have escaped from Sri Lanka, an Indian Coast Guard official said here Thursday.
“There is no way Prabhakaran or his aides could have escaped Sri Lanka in a submarine or otherwise because the attempt would have been clearly spotted on our land-based and offshore radars,” Coast Guard Commanding Officer S. Janarthanam told reporters at this minor port on the southeast coast, 600 km south of state capital Chennai.

“Moreover with intensified patrolling by our Dornier aircraft, helicopters and fast-moving naval patrol boats… the escape would have been impossible in the past and would be so in the future as well,” Janarthanam added.

Reports of Prabhakaran’s alleged escape have appeared in the media since January this year.
