Powerful quake jolts Timor Leste

Jakarta, Dec 6 (Xinhua) A powerful undersea earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale Saturday jolted the coast of Timor Leste, the US geological agency said.The quake occurred at 6.55 p.m. (1055 GMT) under the Banda Sea, 160 km northwest of the capital Dili.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, it said.

Timor Leste is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire where the continental plates meet that causes frequent seismic movements.

Seven minutes before the earthquake, a 5.0-magnitude quake had rocked Indonesia and the neighbouring Minahasa and Sulawesi islands.
