New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) The Department of Posts (DoP) and the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) Monday entered into an agreement to use the postal network for collecting data on prices of commodities in select villages.
This data will be be used for compilation of Consumer Price Index (CPI) for rural areas by the CSO, an official statement said.
The DoP will first conduct a one-time survey and identify shops and outlets in select villages from where data on prices of selected consumer commodities would be collected.
The CSO will scrutinise and validate the data it receives from DoP.
The agreement is valid for one year and renewable on mutually agreed terms and conditions, the statement added.
