New Delhi, June 2 (IANS) The central government Thursday raised the scholarships for Scheduled Tribes students after Class 10 to encourage education after matriculation.
Home Minister P. Chidambaram announced the hike after a meeting of the union cabinet in the national capital.
“The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the revision of centrally sponsored Scheme of Post-Matric Scholarship to students belonging to Scheduled Tribes in India,” The home minister said.
Along with hiking maintenance and other allowances, the income-ceiling of parents and guardians for eligibility for the scholarships has been increased from Rs.1.45 lakh to Rs.2.00 lakh per annum.
The Scheme of Post-Matric Scholarships for Scheduled Tribes students provides financial assistance to such students who pursue recognised post-matriculation courses in India in recognized institutions. The government provides 100 percent central assistance to the state governments for the scheme.
