Vatican City, Dec 25 (IANS) Pope Benedict XVI prayed for world peace Sunday and said that the world remained “torn” by violence which had stained the earth with blood.

Delivering his traditional Christmas message from the Vatican, the pontiff called on the world community to bring an end the violence and bloodshed in war-torn regions of the world such as Syria and the Palestine, Euro News reported.

The 84 year-old Pope made his traditional Christmas “Urbi and Orbi” address from St Peter’s in Vatican City to crowds of the faithful.

“May the prince of peace bring about a resumption of dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, may he bring an end to the violence in Syria, where so much blood has already been shed, and in Iraq, Afghanistan, and North Africa,” he said in his address.

The Pope also vowed to speak out for the voiceless and called for more help for those suffering from hunger and displacement in the Horn of Africa, and those hit by floods in Thailand and the Philippines.

The Pope, in the end of his address, delivered season’s greetings in 65 languages to the world’s 1.3 billion Roman Catholics.

In his address, the people made several calls for peace in the world’s most troubled regions.
