Coimbatore, July 17 (IANS) Chennai’s Vishnu Prasad’s domination in the Volkswagen Polo Cup racing series continued as he came from behind to win the second race of Round 2 at the Kari Motor Speedway here Sunday. Mumbai’s Rahil Noorani won the the first race of the day from pole position.

Vishnu reaped rewards of aggressive driving through the day by finishing third in the first race after starting ninth on the grid. He started from sixth position in the evening to claim the top honours in a race that was made exciting by the intervention of rain and safety car.

The 17-year old is now a distinct leader in the championship with 110 points in four races. He won both the races of Round 1 at the same venue last month. Mumbai’s Mihir Dharkar is second in the overall standings with 77 points, ahead of Pune’s Oshan Kothadiya at 72 points.

While the first race produced expected results in the dry weather, the second one was action packed with the cars spinning regularly on a wet track.

Vishnu moved to the third place in the opening lap. The safety car on lap five, following an accident at the tricky turn one, enabled the gutsy driver to close the gap on Mihir and Oshan, who were running one and two.

The most dramatic moment of the race came on lap eight when Mihir’s car spun at turn eight and he was pushed to last from first in a matter of seconds. And with the rain coming down hard around lap 10, Vishnu took the lead from Oshan. Mihir eventually did well to finish at seventh place.

“Unlike the other drivers, I have the experience of racing in wet conditions. So when it started raining, I knew I will win with another five laps to go. The safety car earlier also helped me close gap on the leaders that time,” said Vishnu.

“It is good that I have won but it was certainly not the greatest race for me. If you look at the data, my fastest lap was .4 of a second slower than Oshan’s,” he added.

Alisha Abdullah, the lone female driver in the competition, had a disappointing weekend. She finished last in the morning and sixth in the evening.
