Poll office notice to Goa law panel head
January 25th, 2012 - 9:35 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Jan 25 (IANS) Election authorities in Goa served notice to state law commission chairman Ramakant Khalap Wednesday after a social activist complained that he had used his official position for party politics.
In his complaint to the chief electoral officer (CEO), lawyer activist Aires Rodrigues said Khalap, a former union minister of state for law, had addressed a media conference Tuesday as a spokesperson of the Congress party and revealed contents of the party’s poll manifesto.
“Even after taking over as chairman of the Goa Law Commission, Ramakant Khalap continued to actively associate with the Congress party by attending its meetings,” Rodrigues said in his complaint.
A spokesperson for the CEO said that Khalap had been formally issued notice and was expected to respond within the week.
