New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) In a daring crime, a group of unidentified men burgled Rs.275,000 in cash and jewellery worth Rs.11,000 from a policeman’s house in east Delhi, officials said Thursday. Head constable Sanjeev found his rented house in Mandawli area ransacked when he returned home in the morning after his night duty.

Sanjeev said before leaving for duty Wednesday he dropped his wife Geeta and their twin babies at his in-laws’ house nearby.

Explaining how there was so much money at home, he said: “The cash was to be handed over to someone as an advance payment for the purchase of our own house. I was to give it to the person concerned two days ago but could not.”

The police said a case was registered and the initial investigation suggested that it “could be an insider job”.
