Policeman shoots himself in Uttar Pradesh
November 29th, 2010 - 7:44 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Nov 29 (IANS) A policeman allegedly shot himself dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district Monday, police said.
Police constable Pawan Sharma shot himself by his service rifle during his duty hours in Nakur town in Saharanpur, some 450 km from here. He was deployed at a government treasury there.
“We are still to ascertain what prompted Pawan to take the extreme step,” Superintendent of Police (Rural) Jagdish Verma told reporters.
According to sources, a suicide note was recovered from Sharma. But Verma refused to divulge the contents of the note.
Officials at the treasury say that for the last few weeks, Pawan preferred remaining aloof and had stopped talking with them.
