Policeman run over by car, dies
March 25th, 2011 - 11:51 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, March 25 (IANS) A traffic police constable was killed here Friday after being run over by a car which then hit a cyclist as the driver tried to escape, police said.
Rakesh Kumar Savita was mowed down by the Ritz car in Alambagh area.
“The driver of the car managed to drive away after hitting the traffic policeman near the Mawaiya crossing,” Police Inspector K.N. Singh told reporters here.
“A criminal case has been registered against an unidentified driver,” he added.
According to police, no one among the public managed to note down the number of the car. The cyclist escaped with minor injuries.
“Investigations are on. We are trying to trace the driver of the car through the details of his appearance provided by the bystanders,” said Singh.
