Policeman killed in gun battle with Maoists

Bhubaneswar, Nov 24 (IANS) A policeman was killed during a raid on a Maoist camp in Orissa’s Malkangiri district Monday evening, police said.The shootout took place when a police party comprising dozens of paramilitary forces and jawans of the special operations group (SOG) raided a Maoist camp in the forest under Kalimela police station, some 750 km from here.

“A jawan of the special operations group was killed but his identity is not known,” district superintendent of police Satyabrata Bhoi told IANS on phone, adding that there were no other casualties.

After a long gun battle, the rebels escaped into the deep forest, he said.
