Police to interrogate conman Jadeja’s kin
June 8th, 2009 - 6:34 pm ICT by IANSAhmedabad, June 8 (IANS) A city court Monday allowed police to interrogate till Thursday Maanbai Rathod, an aunt of conman Ashok Jadeja who is accused of duping thousands of people across India of millions of rupees by posing as a godman.
Maanbai was first detained for questioning by the Gujarat police after she was picked up from her Naroda home Sunday afternoon. She was later arrested the same day.
A visibly shaken Maanbai was brought to the court and was later sent to four days’ police remand.
According to police sources, Maanbai is suspected to have played a key role in helping Jadeja dupe thousands of people across the country while posing as a godman.
Jadeja and his wife Neetu were arrested by police May 31 while trying to flee with Rs.1.98 crore (Rs.19.8 million).
Maanbai was questioned by a team of female and male investigators to know the modus operandi adopted by her to help Jadeja, sources added.
