Police remand for Himachal official held for graft
September 7th, 2009 - 8:28 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Sep 7 (IANS) A senior government official, who was arrested Sunday while accepting a bribe of Rs.4.25 lakh (Rs.425,000) from a contractor, was sent to four days police remand, police said Monday.
A special court in Dharamsala Monday remanded Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board’s chief engineer (operations) Litesh Malhotra, who was arrested from Dharamsala Sunday while taking a bribe of Rs.4.25 lakh from a contractor, in police custody till Sep 10, Inspector General of Police (Vigilance) S.R. Mardi said.
Malhotra, who was due to retire Sep 30 this year, is the second senior most government official arrested by the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau recently.
Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sanjay Gupta, who was managing director of the General Industries Corporation (GIC), was arrested in July from a hotel in the state’s Parwanoo town with Rs.200,000 in cash.
