Police remand for CPI-M supporters in murder case
October 27th, 2010 - 12:12 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 26 (IANS) A court in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Tuesday ordered police custody for two Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) supporters arrested in connection with the murder of a party leader.
Police said Lakshindhar Shit and Khagen Patra of Chichira village of West Midnapore district were arrested Monday night in connection with the murder of Soumen Bhakat July 11.
“Soumen Bhakat was the local CPI-M leader and rural body member of Kandragiri panchayat in Jamboni. He was dragged out and later shot dead. It was then suspected that Maoist guerrillas active in the area had committed the crime,” a senior police officer said.
“After investigation it was revealed that the duo was behind the crime because of internal rivalry,” added the officer. “Shit and Patra were produced before the Jhargram court and remanded in police custody for four days,” said Jhargram District Superintendent of Police Praveen Tripathi.
