Chennai, Aug 4 (IANS) Police are investigating the case of ‘parcel bomb’ containing two plastic lunch boxes, a timer, electric wires and a packet of ammonia delivered by an unidentified person at a shop in Madurai Friday night.
According to Tamil Nadu Police, a youth came to KLK Complex in Madurai to deliver a parcel for Jamal and Umar running a business outlet there.
Finding the outlet closed, the person approached the neighbouring outlet and left the parcel there for delivery to Jamal and Umar.
On Saturday, Umar, after receiving the parcel, opened it to find timers, batteries, plastic lunch boxes, two switches and jute rope.
Shocked at the contents, he informed the police who seized the parcel and deactivated the timer.
The police are investigating the case since Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was initially expected to participate in a function in Madurai Friday. The visit was later cancelled.
