Police officers of northern states to meet in Shimla
February 21st, 2011 - 8:05 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Feb 21 (IANS) Police officials of seven northern states and a union territory will meet in this Himachal Pradesh capital Tuesday to strengthen intelligence networking and improve coordination in settling criminal cases, an official said here Monday.”A regional coordination meeting of police officers of the criminal investigation departments (CID) has been called to develop and improve inter-state crime prevention programmes,” Inspector General A.P. Siddqui told IANS.
He said the IG-level officers would discuss ways to share intelligence inputs about criminals operating in the region.
“With mutual cooperation, the police can speed up operations against the criminals and gangs. This (the meeting) will also help developing and maintaining trust among the investigating agencies,” Siddqui added.
Another police official said the regional coordination meeting is being held after a long gap.
The officers of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and host Himachal Pradesh will participate in a day-long meeting.
