Police officer shot in Uttar Pradesh
November 30th, 2009 - 9:59 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Nov 30 (IANS) An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer undergoing training in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district was Monday shot and injured in mysterious circumstances, officials said.
D.S. Yadav of the 2007 IPS batch was at his residence when the incident took place at around 5.30 p.m.
“Some people came to meet him. As soon as they left, the incident was reported,” Deputy Inspector General of Police Anand Swaroop told IANS over telephone.
A bullet hit Yadav in his shoulder from close range. He has been admitted to the Baba Raghav Das Medical College. His condition is stable.
The police guards at his residence suspect it to a bullet fired from his service pistol.
“He was sitting in the verandah when we heard the gun shot. We rushed inside to find him lying on the ground. His personal guard was also there. We suspect that either Yadav or his guard was cleaning the pistol when it went off accidentally,” one of the guards said.
Yadav is posted as the additional superintendent of police at the Kotwali police station in Gorakhpur, 250 km from Lucknow.
