Police nab arms smuggler
March 5th, 2011 - 12:47 am ICT by IANSGorakhpur, March 4 (IANS) Police Friday arrested an arms smuggler from Bihar and seized pistols and magazines from him, an officer said.
Shyam Kumar was nabbed from Chauri Chaura town in Uttar Pradesh in a joint operation by the special operation group and the district police.
“Shyam Kumar was part of an arms smuggling racket and supplied firearms and ammunition to criminal groups in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and the NCR regions,” police inspector A.K. Pandey told reporters in Gorakhpur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
Two 9 mm pistols and two magazines have been recovered from his possession. Preliminary investigations indicate that Kumar has been into the illegal arms trade for the last five-six years, he added.
