Police launch manhunt to trace missing tricksterSeptember 29th, 2008 - 6:11 pm ICT by IANS
Chennai, Sep 29 (IANS) A manhunt is on to trace a confidence trickster who allegedly defrauded over 80 persons of a total of Rs.15 million, the police said Monday. “Complaints have been filed by 80 people in the police commissioner’s office. We are on a manhunt,” a police source said.
The trickster made false promises to give loans and high interest rates to investors.
“After being widowed, I sold my jewels and invested over Rs.150,000. Dhanasekhar promised an interest quotient of 2.5 percent per month (30 percent per annum) and paid me for just two months and has now disappeared. There are at least 50 others like me near my residence alone,” N. Parameshwari, 54, a complainant said.
R. Lokanayaki, another woman who was cheated, said: “I was promised a loan of Rs.1 million for constructing a house. I paid an advance of Rs.50,000 towards preparation of documents. I have neither got the money nor do I know the whereabouts of Dhanasekhar”.
Three special teams have been formed to search the suspect, the police source added.
