Police custody for rape-accused policeman
May 10th, 2011 - 9:18 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, May 10 (IANS) A Mumbai court Tuesday remanded police Sub-inspector Manoj Kumar Londhe to police custody till May 14 for allegedly raping a former call centre employee, married to an Australian.
Londhe was arrested by the Vinobha Bhave Nagar (Kurla) late Monday. Presently posted in the Maoist-affected Gadchiroli district, he is also accused of taking obscene photographs of the victim and blackmailing her by threatening to post them on the internet.
A case of rape, threatening and extortion was registered against Londhe at the Vinobha Bhave Nagar police station Sunday after the victim registered a complaint.
According to the complaint, the victim was working in a call centre in 2008 and had married her boss, an Australian, in the same year. However, her husband flew back to Australia the same year due to personal reasons and is still there.
Londhe was known to the victim when he was earlier posted in the Kurla area earlier, according to police sources.
