Police complaint filed in Goa medical paper leak
January 3rd, 2011 - 11:49 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Jan 3 (IANS) Three civil society activists have filed a corruption complaint with police over the leak of two medical exam papers in Goa. A probe has also been ordered by the Goa Medical College (GMC) into the incident, an official said Monday.A three-member committee has been constituted to inquire into the incident.
In the complaint filed against unknown people, under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA), activists Ketan Govekar, Kashinath Shetye and Atish Mandrekar said the Medicine I and II papers of IIIrd year MBBS were leaked for monetary gains.
GMC Dean V.N. Jindal confirmed the paper leak, which he said had forced the organisation to cancel the exams and reschedule them.
“This is a very serious matter. The papers have been cancelled. I am also meeting the Goa University vice chancellor in connection with the leakage,” Jindal said.
He also said there was no possibility of all the papers leaking to the students.
Jindal said that 14 question sets were randomly prepared out of which three were submitted to the Goa University, as a matter of protocol.
“Out of the set of three, one set is randomly selected and sent back to the dean’s office. The same set is then sent to the chief examination supervisor one hour before the exam,” a GMC official said.
“We cannot take any immediate decisions, because more than one institution is involved in the examination process. A three-member committee has been formed to probe the leakage and a report will be on my table within 48 hours,” Jindal said.
