Police book education group’s chairman

Panchkula (Haryana), July 13 (IANS) The chairman and managing director of an education group was booked Wednesday on charges of abetting the suicide of a private builder, police said.

The accused was identified as Rajiv Goyal, chairman of Surya Group of Institutes, based in Rajpura town of Punjab, 45 km away from Chandigarh. He was booked on the basis of a complaint by Shiv Kumar Gupta, brother of building contractor Ramesh Gupta, who committed suicide, said a police officer here.

In his first information report, Shiv alleged that Goyal led his brother to commit suicide by not paying his construction bills worth Rs.2 crore (Rs. 20 million).

“Ramesh was missing since July 9. His body was found in a canal in Rajpura yesterday,” the officer said.

Ramesh resided here, 10 km away from Chandigarh.

Ramesh was under depression, the police officer added.

Three others have also been booked for abetting Ramesh’s suicide, the officer said.
