Police allowed to quiz Maoist leader Dipak for 14 days
March 17th, 2010 - 11:25 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, March 17 (IANS) A city court Wednesday allowed police to question arrested Maoist guerrilla leader Venkateswar Reddy alias Telegu Dipak for two more weeks till March 31.
The addditional chief judicial magistrate of Alipur gave the order following a plea by the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The CID sought 16-day remand, arguing that Dipak needed to be quizzed further on his role in carrying out attacks on the security forces and other subversive activities in different parts of the state.
Deepak, a mechanical engineer, was arrested from Kolkata’s adjoining South 24-Parganas district March 2. He was in charge of all city units of the Communist Party of India-Maoist in the state.
Police claim there are at least 40 cases pending against the arrested Maoist leader. Reddy operated his network in Kolkata and its adjoining districts and his focus areas were East Midnapore’s Nandigram and Khejuri in the past three-four years.
Dipak was arrested under the Arms Act and also on the charge of waging war against the state.
