Poisonous gas from septic tank kills six
May 3rd, 2011 - 1:22 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, May 3 (IANS) Six people, including four of a family, died after breathing poisonous gas inside a septic tank in Jharkhand Tuesday, police said.
Two labourers, Gopal Nayak and Jugnu Nayak, were cleaning the septic tank at the home of Mohammad Aftab in Rajrappa area of Ramgarh district, around 70 km from Ranchi. Both fainted in the septic tank, police said.
Following this, Aftab went to help them but he too fainted. To help them, three family members of Aftab - Safiq, Sonu and Ashu - went inside and they all fainted, police said.
Gopal and Jugnu died on the spot. The rest were rushed to hospital but were declared dead.
“It seems poisonous gas from the septic tank claimed the lives of six people,” a police official told IANS.
The bodies have been sent for autopsy.
