New Delhi, Aug 25 (IANS) The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Wednesday sought the industry’s support for rebuilding the infrastructure and rehabilitating people affected by recent flash floods in Leh and Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir.
TKA Nair, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, met top office bearers of leading Indian industry associations including CII, FICCI, Assocham, PHDCCI and SCOPE, to seek their support for rehabilitation of the victims of Aug 6 natural disaster, said an official statement.
Nair said the government was seeking industry’s support to ensure that the rehabilitation work was completed before the onset of winter.
During his visit to the affected areas recently, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced Rs.125 crore rehabilitation package for rebuilding of houses, hospitals and water and power supply.
The Aug 6 flash floods in Leh claimed 183 lives and extensively damaged property.
The industries associations have already extended some support and assured the government that they would provide all possible support in the rehabilitation work.
The areas for cooperation include ensuring adequate supply of material, equipment, and labour, along with necessary assistance in terms of technical expertise and medical assistance as needed.
The PMO has asked the state government to prepare a detailed plan for the rehabilitation work before the end of this month.
