PM condoles North Korean leader’s death

Manmohan Singh New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday condoled the death of North Korea’s top leader Kim Jong Il Saturday, and expressed his sorrow to his family.

“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has condoled the passing away of General Secretary of the Worker’s Party, Chairman of the National Defence Commission and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Il,” a release from the ministry of external affairs said here this evening.

In his message, the prime minister conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased leader, as well as, the people and government of North Korea, hoping that they will overcome their grief with courage and fortitude.

Separately Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed signed the condolence book at the North Korean embassy in New Delhi Tuesday, observing that “it is with a deep sense of sorrow that we have learnt about the sad demise of Kim Jong Il”.

He also conveyed assurances of India’s commitment to relations with North Korea.
