PM condemns Mumbai blasts, calls for calm and unity

New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday strongly condemned the serial blasts in Mumbai Wednesday evening and urged the people of that city to remain calm and and united in the face of the first major terror attack since 26/11.
“I strongly condemn the bomb blasts in Mumbai this evening,” Manmohan Singh said in a statement.
Manmohan Singh said he had asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan “to do whatever is possible to provide relief to the injured and to the families of the deceased citizens”.
He added that he had asked Home Minister P. Chidambaram “to provide all possible expert assistance to the state government”.
“I appeal to people of Mumbai to remain calm and show a united face,” Manmohan Singh said.
