PM cancels election rally in Delhi

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Nov 27 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s election rally in the capital Thursday was cancelled following the terrorist attack in Mumbai that left least 101 people dead and over 250 injured. Manmohan Singh was to address an election rally in Dakshinpuri in south Delhi at 2 p.m. Thursday

“The prime minister’s election rally in the capital has been cancelled following the terrorist attack in Mumabi,” Delhi Congress chief J.P. Agarwal told IANS.

The Congress had decided to end its campaign for Saturday’s assembly election in Delhi with the prime minister’s rally.

The most audacious terror attack in Mumbai began Wednesday night when militants attacked high profile landmarks, including the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel, Metro Theatre and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus) railway station. At least 101 people, including a foreign tourist and four top police officers, were killed and over 250 injured.

Ahostage crisis continued Thursday with tourists and other guests being held by terrorists in the two five-star hotels.
