PM arrives in Japan to improve bilateral exchange

Manmohan SinghTokyo, Oct 21 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Tokyo Tuesday on the first leg of his two-nation tour to strengthen cooperation in defence and security domain and to further expansion of the bilateral partnership.Manmohan Singh is scheduled to hold talks with Taro Aso, the new Japanese prime minister, on the global economic meltdown and cooperation on political and security issues apart from declaring a host of economic agenda including an in-principle accord on an India-Japan comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA).

This is Prime Minister Singh’s second bilateral visit to Japan having visited the country first in Dec 2006.

Prime Minister Singh will also be attending the ASEM summit in Beijing Oct 24-25, which is the first time that India has been invited into this grouping. His visit to Beijing for the summit comes on the heels of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit there.
