Madrid, April 26 (DPA) Pirates have freed the 26-man crew of a fishing vessel seized off the coast of Somalia, the Spanish government announced in Madrid Saturday . “The kidnapping has ended happily,” said Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, but declined to say whether a ransom had been paid.
The pirates had demanded 1 million euros ($1.6 million), according to press reports.
The Playa de Bakio was seized in international waters last Sunday and taken to the Somali coast.
