Pirates hijack tanker off Nigerian coast
October 11th, 2011 - 8:06 pm ICT by IANSLagos, Oct 11 (IANS) The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) Tuesday said pirates have hijacked a tanker off the Nigerian coast.
The tanker carrying products was attacked late Saturday and the vessel and crew were taken to an unknown location, the IMB said, reported Xinhua.
The IMB said on its website that “pirates boarded and hijacked a product tanker drifting whilst awaiting orders” in a location around 90 nautical miles south of Lagos.
The tanker was “sailed to an unknown location”, it said.
It was the second hijacking of tankers in the region within two weeks. On Oct 2, pirates armed with automatic weapons boarded a chemical tanker off Benin before stealing cash.
