Lucknow, Sep 15 (IANS) In a major breakthrough, over 40,000 pirated CDs and DVDs of latest Bollywood films and music albums were seized during a raid in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, police said Thursday. Three people have been arrested.

Ghanshyam Madhesia, Deepak Kumar and Vinay, all in their mid-30s, were nabbed Wednesday night following a joint operation conducted by the police and the entertainment tax department officials.

“Acting on a tip-off, we raided the hideout in Shastrinagar and seized 40,500 pirated CDs and DVDs of latest Bollywood movies and music albums,” police Inspector O.P. Chauhan told reporters in Ballia, some 300 km from Lucknow.

The CDs were to be supplied to eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh and some regions in Bihar, he added.

The arrested men have been involved in the illegal trade for the last four years.

“The three have been booked under various sections of cheating and forgery, and the Copyright Act,” said Chauhan.
