Pilgrims disrupt traffic after two injured
July 19th, 2009 - 8:57 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, July 19 (IANS) A group of pilgrims on their way to Haridwar Monday damaged vehicles and disrupted road traffic in West Delhi when a passing car hit and injured two members.
The ‘Kanwarias’ or devotees of Lord Shiva, who annually trek to Haridwar and walk back to their homes in distant places of North India with the Ganga water, blocked roads in Punjabi Bagh area after two of them were hit by a car in Madipur area.
The two sustained minor injuries but agitated pilgrims damaged four buses, two cars and also attempted to set a bus on fire.
The Punjabi Bagh section of the Ring Road was blocked by the protesters and as the Ridge Road was closed due to the visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, west Delhi was cut off from some areas of the capital.
