Pharma company’s officials booked for two workers’ death
November 17th, 2010 - 11:51 pm ICT by IANSDera Bassi (Punjab), Nov 17 (IANS) A case of negligence was registered against the management of a pharmaceutical company here Wednesday for the death of its two workers in a fire in its premises in Punjab’s Mohali district, police said.
According to the police, a major fire broke out on the premises of Anuja Healthcare in Dera Bassi town Tuesday evening.
“We have booked the management on the charges of causing death by negligence and for endangering the life and personal safety of others,” said Harjinder Singh, investigation officer of the case.
Five workers of the factory were injured in the fire and they were shifted to a hospital in Chandigarh, around 20 km from here. Two of them died of their injuries Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Ram Shakal (40) and Mohan Sharma (35), police said.
The fire was caused by a blast in the unit’s chemical reactor.
