Mumbai, Nov 27 (IANS) The “heinous” terrorist strike in Mumbai was aimed at inflicting injuries to the nation’s polity and economy, but “we are confident of the resilience of the Indian economy and courageous spirit of the people of Mumbai”, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Thursday evening.”Earlier too, people of Mumbai faced the situation with courage and fortitude,” Mukherjee said, referring to the 1993 serial bombings that had left 257 people killed and the July 7, 2006, suburban train bombings that left 185 dead.

“People will not succumb to terrorists’ designs. The heinous attacks were aimed to inflict injuries on the political and economic front, and in terms of the human lives, the losses are very high. But it will redouble our determination to fight the menace (of terrorism),” he told a news channel.

The on-going terror strike in the city has claimed at least 110 lives and left more than 300 people injured.
